Amouage has introduced Sindbad, a new fragrance created in collaboration with the Royal Opera House Muscat. The opera Sindbad: The Omani Sailor debuts today, and the fragrance will be “gently diffused” during the performance.
Sindbad: The Omani Sailor. The new Amouage Essence in partnership with the Royal Opera House Muscat is inspired by the opera’s storyline, in which the hero seeks the legendary ‘Magic Perfume’ to guide him to the lost ship of Princess Hayat. The fragrance captures themes of transformation, longing and discovery. With rich notes of Honey, Black Tea, Mango and Vanilla, the perfume concentrate for Sindbad was infused for six months with high quality of decades-old sandalwood chips, a process which lends the perfume a smooth, suave timelessness. The bio-ethanol used to dilute the concentrate was stored for a similar period in custom-made oak barrels, enabling it to take on the roasted aroma of the wood.
The Sindbad perfume begins in the familiarity of home. Before we accompany our hero on his quest, we must understand what he is leaving behind: warmth and harmony. To express this, the fragrance opens with comfort. Rich Honey connects to Apricot and Mango, linked to Cardamom, moving to the optimism of Ginger and Tangerine.
At journey’s end, the Fragrance of Life is found. The princess is rescued, and Sindbad returns to marry his true love. Tonka Bean and Vanilla echo their embrace. Cedarwood symbolises their tranquil union. Labdanum, Cypriol and Vetiver serve as a reminder of home’s pull.
Amouage Sindbad Essence de Parfum is available at limited locations in Oman starting today; I do not know if or when it will go into wider distribution.
