It’s (teapotless, I will do two teapots next week to make up for it) Tuesday, plus the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. What fragrance are you wearing?

Most of my favorite Beach Boys songs are from Pet Sounds, but I’m starting with an earlier song, Don’t Worry Baby, from 1964. It was included on my first Beach Boys music purchase, the 1974 double album compilation Endless Summer. Don’t Worry Baby was written by Brian Wilson with Roger Christian, with Wilson taking the lead vocal. While it’s not entirely an upbeat song, it still gives me an instant happy summer feel. So I’m in a happy summer favorite, Carthusia Mediterraneo.

Reminder: 6/20 is Brian Wilson’s birthday (and the summer solstice). Scent a Beach Boys song, or honor Brian Williams with your fragrance in any other way you see fit. (For lillyjo, who asked for another music cp.)

Note: top image shows the Beach Boys (with Brian at the back) at Paradise Cove beach, Malibu, in 1962, in the then-SoCal-surfer uniform of khakis and Pendleton shirts. Yes, you can still buy the shirt.

Bonus listen: an outtake with alternate lead vocal, from the 2013 box set Made in California. You can also find a list of Don’t Worry Baby covers at WhoSampled.

Bonus unrelated cover: Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) singing Love and Mercy.
